THE CASE FOR PROFESSIONAL SOVEREIGNTY
Hello! I'm Dr. Hume, a professor of communication and your guide to Professional Sovereignty. Like you, for years I sought to find true clarity and direction in my career. Navigating a path that spans multiple high-stakes industries, I realized that I couldn't rely on an institution to define me.
I needed to find the common thread, the Professional Currency, that linked my diverse skills and expertise.
My career began in the fast-paced world of broadcast journalism. I served as a TV presenter with Jamaica’s Information Service (JISTV), a radio announcer with FAME FM and Radio Jamaica (RJR94 FM), and as a publicist in the global Reggae music industry. I also stepped into the halls of power, serving as an advisor and political speechwriter for the Government of Jamaica.
Through these roles, I discovered that a job title is a temporary lease, but your value is a permanent title deed. This realization is what allowed me to stop "renting" my reputation and start owning my authority—the very transformation I now help you achieve.
Through my experience delivering the news and crafting messages for leaders, I discovered the profound power of Professional Sovereignty. To be truly effective as a leader, you must unlock and leverage your human skills, core values, and expertise—and these personal assets must be minted into a currency that the market recognizes and respects.
I later earned my doctorate in political science from The University of Waikato (New Zealand), focused on the importance of ethical and authentic leadership in building a strong civil society. Yet, after completing my doctorate, I did not have a clear career trajectory. I was qualified and highly skilled but still unclear of how to own my value. I pursued an academic career, first as a professor of journalism at James Cook University (Australia), and later Roger Williams University (USA), where I could use the skills I already had and develop others.
I knew that to advance and land high-stakes opportunities, I needed to get clear about my professional currency—who I am, the unique value I deliver, and how to effectively signal that value to differentiate myself.
Shifting to this sovereign approach has been a game-changer. Today, I utilize this as the cornerstone of my consulting practice. I developed the “OWN YOUR VALUE™” Masterclass to empower professionals and executives to take charge of their careers by defining their own "title deed" of expertise so they can distinguish themselves as sovereign authorities.

Once you enroll and submit payment, you will have immediate access to the course material for one year from the purchase date. Even after you have completed the 6-week course, you can still access the content and refresh your knowledge for up to one year after the purchase date.

Inside the course, there are 6 weeks of sequential content and tasks to complete. This is divided into three levels. Once you begin the course (Level 1), a new level will be released every two weeks.
